Understand The Addicted Brain

Don’t Lie, Do You Really Want To Stop Looking At Porn?

Are you feeling like you’re two different persons when it comes to looking at porn?

Do You Want to Stop Looking at Porn or Not?

“Battle,” “Fight,” “Destroy,” “Kill it,” these are the phrases that you hear when it comes to pornography; however, these phrases and this mindset is what keeps the desire to look at porn burning.

The battle begins here and that’s part of the problem. You’re battling ‘IT’.

At the core of the Utah Family Therapy, we teach you why you literally feel like you’re two different people.

The most common thing we hear from individuals when they come in for their initial assessment is:

  • that there is a part of me that wants to stop looking at porn,
  • but there’s this other part that doesn’t want to stop looking at porn.

Understanding why you feel this way is at the core of Utah Family Therapy’s program and its the core of our treatment methodology.

Porn Devastated Her

Recently, I was talking to a young lady who had just found out that her husband has been secretly looking at pornography for a number of years.

In her words

“What do I do? Do I leave? How do I do this? I hate him. Am I ever be able to have a sexual relationship with him again?”

I took a moment to explain the two-part brain to her.

She melted in a way. She was still angry, very angry, but now she understood what was going on in the brain, why pornography does what it does, how it becomes such a secret addiction.

The two-part brain concept is something we learned from our mentor, friend, and colleague, Gordon Bruin. We have embraced this in our treatment because it is a TRUE and POWERFUL principle.
