Is It Possible To Be Overconfident In Addiction Recovery To Pornography?
The reason why it is possible to be overly confident is that its human nature to become complacent.
It is human nature to say all is well and as a result of all being well, I’m going to let my guard down a little bit I’m going to be okay and everything’s great; eat drink and be merry.
You may even say, “I No Longer Have An Addiction To Pornography.”
Once you get this confident and dare I say arrogant, then your chance increases to possibly have a relapse.
Keep in mind that the brain is very powerful and as we talk about the two parts of the brain with addiction recovery, we talk about one particular area of the brain.
You probably have learned about this as you have been learning more about addiction.
… the limbic system
The limbic system houses and processes the instincts, emotions and the memories, of our life.
It’s so incredibly powerful, that if we become complacent, we can lose all rational thought.
The urge to survive resides in this part of the brain!
If we have a survival instinct and it’s so naturally powerful, it’s also going to have a very powerful instinct to turn to something that is rewarding, like acting out an addiction that has a temporary reward associated with it.
Being overly confident can happen.
We can say to ourselves that we’ve overcome this instinct, this limbic part of our brain.
We’ve mastered it and oftentimes that can cause the limbic system to basically defend itself and say,
“Hey, I’m going to defend myself. I’m going to do what’s best for me.”
In some sense, we are actually challenging our survival brain, almost daring it to see who will win. If we let the guard down, just a little bit, that’s when the limbic system can take control and our chance for relapse increases 10 fold.
There’s a strong desire in every one of us to be the master of everything and to say we have complete control, and we can have a lot of control but we must learn how this part of the brain works and how to retrain it.
It is very important to keep in mind that we are powerful and we can learn self-mastery, but don’t be fooled to think you can get close to an edge and not fall.

Sometimes when you can’t think of something to say, you shouldn’t say anything at all.
I have been processing a post an individual sent to us through our private email group and nothing was coming to me. I didn’t feel like I should post anything, maybe I was supposed to just allow them to process things on their own.

- You must do the course to a “T” not skipping, not interpreting, but truly following it.
- You must have your own motivation, which is easy to have when your struggling because you want to crush kill and destroy any and all addiction but when you start feeling better, you tend to slack off a bit.
- You must engage the steps we have given you when triggered.
- We can’t customize it for you, because it needs to serve the masses.
- We don’t know your specific triggers to be able to help you.
- We don’t know your background.
- You have triggers that we don’t know of so we can walk you through and help you process them.
- Generally, there are deeper rooted issues that need to be resolved and that can only be done with individual therapy.

As you can tell, individual therapy for most is an absolute must to find that deeper sense of peace and sobriety.

I had a recent experience where a loved one shared their life with the world and they divulged shocking details of their life. I am still wondering do I say something or do I just let them think about it.
Do I acknowledge what they wrote?
Do I play dumb when I talk to them? What do I do?
The one thing I realized no matter what is you can show love. Love transcends any issue.
No matter what the situation or the issue is, love will help.
Let the individual know that you care and you are there for them. Don’t say you understand unless you truly can relate, you have been through the experience. If you haven’t then the person you are talking to will think you’re full of crap.
When you try to show false empathy, you only damage a relationship. If you show true empathy and love, the relationship is improved … Ten-fold.
