Thinking About Counseling for Your Teenager or Young Adult?

CEO and founder of Utah Family Therapy Counseling in American Fork, Rob Robison, has performed a great deal of therapy in the last decade with teens and young adults.

Prior to this, he worked with adults therapeutically for a stretch of time. To this very day, he says one of the most heart-wrenching things his adult clients have said is

“I wish I would have known this stuff when I was younger.”

It is for this reason that Utah Family Therapy focuses on the help and betterment of teens and young adults specifically, as this is one of the most crucial stages of development in all of life.

This period of time yields the opportunity for a large amount of growth to occur which then carries on into a lifetime.

Taking an early approach to work with issues like addiction, mental disorders, and other behavioral problems can prevent your child from carrying negative habits and perceptions into adulthood.

Healing Mind

Once a child reaches their late twenties, the brain has finished its major stages of growth.

At this point, new habits may still be formed and we can always change our ways, but it becomes more difficult to do so; and if those habits have solidified throughout adolescence and young adulthood as well, they can become far more difficult to change than they would have been.

At Utah Family Therapy provides counseling in American Fork, it is our mission to give your child the best chance possible at a life of happiness and fulfillment.

We do not want them just to survive, we want them to thrive

As human beings, we do not need to struggle with negative and unwanted behaviors for a lifetime.

Our brain is an incredible tool; it can be used for us or against us.

Before a teen understands how they can go about using their brain and thinking patterns as an advantage in life though, they must first understand how to do so.

We will teach your child how to work through and be resilient to shame.

Shame Therapy Doesn'T Work

Shame Therapy Doesn’t Work. We do not use shame therapy. We believe in empowerment.

Shame is the number one internal cause of addiction and insecurities.

We all feel shame; usually on a daily basis.

It is the voice inside us that says “you’re not good enough”.

Our job will not be to teach your child how to “always be the best and never make mistakes”, rather our job will be to instruct your child line upon line how to go about accepting themselves as imperfect, how to have the courage to be vulnerable and be themselves, and how to move to a place of “I am enough.”

This is learned, built, and then continued on a daily basis throughout life.

In addition to this type of one-on-one work, we specialize in what is referred to as multi-systemic therapy.

Multi-systemic therapy creates lasting change

Studies have shown it to be far more effective than traditional therapy, and many times even more effective than residential treatments or wilderness programs.

Through this method, we incorporate as many factors of your child’s environment as we can, including family, friends, school counselors, religious leaders, and any other individuals deemed useful for your child’s progression.

By working with you, the parent(s), as well as others in your child's life, rapid and lasting change can occur.

Our program for teens and the adult program can range anywhere from weekly counseling to this intensive multi-systemic approach.

Utah Family Therapy does Counseling in American Fork and works with you and your child to find the best program suited to their needs.

Our curriculum is flexible and our approaches diverse. Our one rule is to always lead with compassionempathy, and the building of self-worth.

We do not use shame-based therapy as many clinics have unfortunately fallen into the habit of doing.

We believe that genuine interpersonal connection and trust brings motivation, and we seek to enable your child’s positive progression, both while in therapy and for the years after they have finished.

UTAH FAMILY THERAPY'S UNFILTERED MISSION STATEMENT

Lets face it, who likes to talk about their crap with other people?

If you’re like most clients, you’re used to being judged despite hearing so many people talk about non judgment and when you do open up, it seems like the more you share, the less likely you are to get compassion.

We’ve worked our butts off to create a clinic where the unfiltered, real you, can show up and heal, so dammit give therapy a chance

We love the unfiltered real you, let’s heal together. – Utah Family Therapy Team
