You have been trained to consider Residential Treatment or Wilderness Therapy as the next step; with a cost averaging $10,000 – $20,000 every 30 days.
Allow us to introduce you to another option! And it is proven to be just as effective as Residential Treatment.* Click here to see the research.
At Utah Family Therapy, we offer weekly therapy, but only when it is the right fit for your child.
Utah Family Therapy’s Program is about helping you, your child and the entire system … in their current environment. This might include other family members, religious leaders, academic advisors, other counselors, and any individuals of influence in your child’s life.
This treatment is known as Intensive Outpatient – Multisystemic Therapy (MST) or easier Intensive Outpatient Program. (IOP)
It is a MULTI SYSTEM…everyone in the system. Programs that fail often do so due to the fact: They don’t involve the system! Whenever possible, youth should be treated IN THEIR OWN SYSTEM.
Some parents say,
“We have tried over and over and it hasn’t worked” or “Our kid is way too far gone, so no way they can stay here.”
10% of you may be right. 90% likely qualify for The UFT Program.
Teens who get treatment away from home may see changes but the majority return to old behaviors within a year.
Teenagers and young adults who go away to residential programs come home and often fail.*; to the tune of over 50% returning to Residential Treatment after 2 years.*
The goal of The UFT Program is to keep your child in their natural environment and create the change there, involving the entire system. (SEE THE RESEARCH!)
A team of licensed therapists and trained mentor(s) engages with the system on a daily basis. You can expect approximately 2-6 hours a week of treatment depending on the need.
There are ups and downs in this process, but that’s’ the point; to learn how to build and improve in the natural environment. If your child is sent away for treatment, they will need intensive adjustment therapy upon return. In fact, The UFT Program is often used upon completion of Residential Treatment by families/individuals trying to adjust.
Your child learns to be accountable and communicate within your system. Parents and family members engage and learn to support and lift each other. Other leaders and individuals of influence are involved as needed.
You may say
“Yah, this all sounds nice but my kid is so defiant, there is no way they will agree to a program like this.”
Perhaps …
but after the INITIAL ASSESSMENT, over 80% of qualified clients agree and commit to The UFT Program. Some of these kids were as defiant as can be imagined.
We urge you to come in for an assessment and see our process of connecting with your child. At YES, we are doing the treatment the right way, right now. No sugar coating the issues or treatment to try to win you over. We commit to helping you determine what the best fit for your child is; even if it’s not with YES.
Goals of Treatment:
It varies.
The length of treatment is based on need, once we do an assessment. The average client is in the program for 4-6 months and, with more intensive treatment the first 1-2 months to stabilize. We continue to provide care on a month/month basis, as needed, following completion of the Program.
We are not suggesting that Wilderness or Residential Treatment should be taken off the list of options. Sometimes, a 1-2 month stint in Wilderness or Short-Term Residential is absolutely vital for the safety of your child.
Often, the family and your child can benefit from a time of reset; especially when an individual continues to:
The UFTIOP Program will work with and prepare the family if your child is in short-term Residential or Wilderness Treatment. Then we continue working with your child upon their return.
Research shows that the success MST like our Program can be more effective than Residential Treatment.
“In the 28 years I have been entrusted with caring for other people’s children, some of whom come from dire circumstances; I have learned firsthand there is no substitute for a child’s birth family. I used to think we could do a better job of raising these children. We know better now. The best way to help a child is to help his or her family. …” – Patrick Lawler
Lets face it, who likes to talk about their crap with other people?
If you’re like most clients, you’re used to being judged despite hearing so many people talk about non judgment and when you do open up, it seems like the more you share, the less likely you are to get compassion.
We’ve worked our butts off to create a clinic where the unfiltered, real you, can show up and heal, so dammit give therapy a chance!
We love the unfiltered real you, let’s heal together. – Utah Family Therapy Team
