What Medicaid Covers at Utah Family Therapy

Medicaid is one of our most used insurance panels. We’ve worked hard to ensure our clients get maximum benefit from their coverage. Here’s what Medicaid typically covers through our practice:

Mental Health IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program) Our IOP is structured, therapist-led, and designed for teens and adults who need more support than weekly therapy alone. Groups meet multiple times per week, both in-person and online. Learn more about our Mental Health IOP →
Individual Therapy One-on-one sessions with a licensed therapist focused on anxiety, depression, trauma, and more.
Couples Therapy Work through relationship challenges with a therapist trained in helping couples reconnect and rebuild.
Family Therapy Strengthen communication and heal relational wounds as a family unit.
Coverage varies by plan. Our insurance liaison will confirm your specific benefits before your first appointment — no obligation.

Ten Tips for Getting the Most from Your Medicaid Benefits

1. Know What You’re Covered For Medicaid plans vary. Ask our team to walk through your specific coverage — including session limits, copays, and eligible services.
2. Work With Medicaid-Approved Providers Utah Family Therapy is a Medicaid-approved provider. You don’t need a referral to contact us directly.
3. Ask Questions There are no dumb questions when it comes to your mental health coverage. Our team is here to make this simple.
4. Be Honest in Your Sessions The more open you are with your therapist, the more tailored and effective your care will be.
5. Show Up Consistently Regular attendance is one of the biggest factors in treatment success. Consistency builds momentum.
6. Engage Fully in the Process Therapy works when you work it. Complete the exercises, reflect between sessions, and stay engaged.
7. Advocate for Yourself If something isn’t working, say so. We’d rather adjust than have you check out. You can also reach out to your Medicaid representative with coverage questions.
8. Use the Full Range of Services Medicaid often covers more than just individual therapy — including group therapy, family sessions, and IOP. Don’t leave benefits on the table.
9. Stay Current on Your Medicaid Renewal If your Medicaid coverage lapses, so does your access to services. Keep your renewal current to avoid gaps in your care.
10. Take Care of Yourself Outside of Sessions Therapy is one piece of the puzzle. Rest, movement, healthy relationships, and self-compassion all support your progress between appointments.

Does Utah Family Therapy accept Medicaid?
Yes. We are a Medicaid-approved provider and accept Medicaid for a range of mental health services, including our Intensive Outpatient Program, individual therapy, couples counseling, and family therapy.
Unfortunately, there are some state Medicaid’s that we do NOT accept. We have been trying to get on them but getting denied because they choose specific providers only.
Contact your local legislators and let them know you would like us to be on their provider list.

Medicaid typically covers our Mental Health IOP (for both teens and adults), individual therapy sessions, family therapy, and couples counseling. Coverage varies by plan — our insurance liaison will confirm your specific benefits before your first appointment.
Does Medicaid cover the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)?
In most cases, yes. IOP is considered a medically necessary level of care, which Medicaid generally covers. We’ll verify this with your specific plan before you begin.

What Medicaid plans do you accept?
We accept, TAM, Utah Medicaid. We also accept Select Health Medicaid as a separate plan. If you’re unsure which plan you’re on, our insurance liaison can help you figure that out.
If it’s a state Medicaid program and you live in Utah County and are being forced to go to Wasatch Behavior Health and would like to use us, contact your local legislators and let them know you want more options. We want to help you but our hands our tied.

Copays vary depending on your specific Medicaid plan. Our team will walk you through any out-of-pocket costs during your benefits verification — before you commit to anything.
What if my Medicaid doesn't cover everything I need?
We never turn anyone away based on financial barriers. If your coverage has gaps, we’ll work with you to explore options, including sliding scale fees, private pay, and other resources.
UTAH FAMILY THERAPY'S UNFILTERED MISSION STATEMENT

Lets face it, who likes to talk about their crap with other people?

If you’re like most clients, you’re used to being judged despite hearing so many people talk about non judgment and when you do open up, it seems like the more you share, the less likely you are to get compassion.

We’ve worked our butts off to create a clinic where the unfiltered, real you, can show up and heal, so dammit give therapy a chance

We love the unfiltered real you, let’s heal together. – Utah Family Therapy Team
