Put your good thoughts into action

John_Greenleaf_Whittier

“For of all sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these: ‘It might have been’…”
John Greenleaf Whittier (1807-1892).

Perhaps learning to trust yourself is one of the greatest assets you could ever develop.

You develop trust in yourself when you take steps to be true to your values and morals.

Probably the most frustrating things about addictions are that they turn one against oneself!  This is because one is faced with the reality that they are not living up to their own personal values.

I believe that this process can be reversed by small action steps which can begin today.

The chains of addiction can be unraveled if you consistently work at it. The clients that I’ve seen get better are those who stick with the recovery process.

If they have a slip along the road of recovery, they have learned to pick themselves up quickly and learn from them.

They have learned never to condone a slip but at the same time to never fall into the pit of shame for shame will only fuel the fire of more addictive episodes.  Be accountable and responsible for yourself.

Do not blame anyone or anything else for your behaviors.

Below is a 28 min. video that talks about the danger of shame. I hope you watch it because it helps you to understand the importance of avoiding shame.

Start small.

Start making simple changes today, changes like:

  • Go to bed earlier
  • Do 5 min of exercise a day.
  • Read 5 min in a good, uplifting book.
  • Express gratitude to each of your family members.
  • etc…

You choose what simple steps you want to commit to doing today. Just start putting those good thoughts into action.

Leave your comments below on what you are committing to doing today to take action.

UTAH FAMILY THERAPY'S UNFILTERED MISSION STATEMENT

Lets face it, who likes to talk about their crap with other people?

If you’re like most clients, you’re used to being judged despite hearing so many people talk about non judgment and when you do open up, it seems like the more you share, the less likely you are to get compassion.

We’ve worked our butts off to create a clinic where the unfiltered, real you, can show up and heal, so dammit give therapy a chance

We love the unfiltered real you, let’s heal together. – Utah Family Therapy Team
