Wants to Be a Guide For You

Dallin is not a stranger to mental health struggles himself, particularly with
depression and shame.

Dallin is a licensed clinical mental health counselor who works with teens and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, disordered eating, shame, and a variety of other mental health challenges.

He uses a blend of evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and compassion-focused techniques.

His foundational modality is person-centered therapy, empowering clients to discover their own answers and insights.

Understanding the Shame Voice

Many of Dallin’s clients, regardless of their specific struggles, wrestle with a
common belief:

“I am not good enough”.

This “shame voice” is an inner critic that ties self-worth to achievement and meeting expectations, telling us we must be better before we can be happy.

His goal is to help clients honor both the desire to change and the courage to accept where they are at, learning to meet shame with compassion and remember they are already enough.

Connection is Key

Dallin recognizes that support systems are crucial to mental health.

To be truly connected means feeling loved, seen, and supported.

Healthy relationships help manage stress and foster a sense of belonging.

In therapy, he helps clients explore the quality of their current relationships and the impact those dynamics have on emotional well-being.

Whether it’s building new connections, setting boundaries in existing ones, or healing from relational wounds, strengthening connections is a vital step toward growth and healing.

What to Expect in Therapy in Dallin Schenk's Words

Therapy is hard but the hardest part is taking the first step to come to therapy,
which is how the healing process starts.

1. The Courage to Begin – You showing up is a brave first step in helping you
feel better about your life and yourself.

2. Progress, Not Perfection – Healing is a gradual process and doesn’t require having all the answers.

3. Therapy is Work – Anything worthwhile takes effort, and therapy is no
different. Showing up, feeling, and being real is the work of healing.

4. Permission to Be Human – You don’t need to hide your struggles with me.

Therapy invites self-compassion and lets people know they don’t have to hide their struggles.

UTAH FAMILY THERAPY'S UNFILTERED MISSION STATEMENT

Lets face it, who likes to talk about their crap with other people?

If you’re like most clients, you’re used to being judged despite hearing so many people talk about non judgment and when you do open up, it seems like the more you share, the less likely you are to get compassion.

We’ve worked our butts off to create a clinic where the unfiltered, real you, can show up and heal, so dammit give therapy a chance

We love the unfiltered real you, let’s heal together. – Utah Family Therapy Team
